The Internship (2013)

I'm sure I said it before, but I divide movies into two groups. Movies I enjoy and movies I don't. And I really don't want to take all the fun away from you, but I just can't imagine how someone could not enjoy this one. It's fun, bright, positive and just pure pleasure to watch. Vince Vaughn has yet again came up with a great story, not just for young people, but for 'older' generation especially.

'The Internship' was directed by Shawn Levy, maker of such movies as 'Night At The Museum' franchise or 'Real Steel'. In main roles we can see producer Vince Vaughn and funny as ever Owen Wilson. Story is about two old school salesman Billy McMahon (Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Wilson), who after loosing their jobs, try to find themselves in a modern, digital world. They apply for an internship at undoubtedly one of the best companies to work for - GOOGLE! Immediately thrown into deep water, they battle their way through an army of young and driven minds , trying to show that their values and way of thinking  is not so much out of this world. They prove that overcoming your own weaknesses is possible and fighting for greater good of team is better than focusing on a Unit.

I would never say it's a great movie, but will definitely make the list of my favourite films of 2013. What I particularly enjoyed is Google world shown in it. If a real working experience is half as good as one we can see in the movie, it really must be an amazing place to work. One thing that some critics pointed out, is that movie does feel like one big Google ad., already being labeled as "The longest advert in the cinema". But what the heck, I like good advertisement and I really don't mind seeing one like that in theatre. Not sure how heavily Google was involved in this project, but in my opinion they should have made it years ago, and sure as hell i would love to watch a similar movie about Apple.

Two more things to mention, it starts with brilliant car-karaoke version of 'Ironic' by Alanis Morisette, sung by Wilson and Vaughn. Boys are amazing! Second thing, are movie end credits. By far the best I have seen for a long while, made in Google TV adverts style. This is just an example but I'm sure you get the drift. You just need to see it, so stay till the end.

Man Of Steel (2013)

I have to say, I was never a big fan of Superman and I really can't say why... Maybe, it's because he's too perfect, or maybe it's because he's not human. Strong, good-looking, with all superpowers one can think of. Besides, all previous movies, weren't really that great. And I don't want to disappoint all comic fans, but Man Of Steel isn't either. I personally found it very dull and flat. While watching it, plenty of times I actually felt like 'Not Again' or 'Can I leave now?' There's just not much happening in it.

Ok, but some facts first. The plot, in a very short version goes like this: Good, in this case it's Superman portrayed by Henry Cavil, with some help from Amy Adams as Lois Lane, fights Evil, in this case Michael Shannon, starred as General Zod, who in a nutshell, wants to destroy humanity. Did not expect that, did you? Movie was directed by Zack Snyder, mainly known for his box office hit 300.

I admit, I was a bit harsh and there is a few things I did like about the new Superman. First of all, the title. It's just different, but it's something recent DC Comics film adaptations have in common (e.g. The Dark Knight). 

Second thing, the bad character General Zod, who even though appears to be, is not a regular badass, whose only desire is to kill everyone and destroy everything. I actually sympathised with him a bit. He is what he is, he fights for what he believes in and what in his opinion is a greater good. A greater good of his own kind. Just because in a process of achieving that, he needs to destroy humanity is entirely different subject. In the end of the day, it's not his fault that his archrival Superman was sent to Earth but anywhere else.

Another thing I liked, is a bunch of good oldtimers in some minor roles, including: Kevin Cosnter, Lawrenece Fishburne and one and only Russell Crowe.

But what, or who I should say, I loved the most about this movie, is Amy Adams, who's just adorable. She is second to none best superhero's girl. Well, maybe second to Emma Stone but thats debatable ;)

So, if you've got nothing better to do in your spare time.... then maybe go for a walk. It's a real shame that man who was the mastermind behind some great movies, like previously mentioned Batman franchise or one of a kind Inception, was unable to turn Man of Steel into half decent film. Or maybe Christopher Nolan, who I speak of, can't influence movie from Producer seat s much as he had from behind the camera. Or, as I hinted before, Superman story just isn't good enough.

Oh, and one last thing. I really believe that superhero movie should have a sequel spoiler at the end, so if you, unlike me, don't tend to read credits, just leave when movie ends...or before it stars.

Now You See Me (2013) - Again...

Dokładnie... Again, czyli znów tu jestem. Na kolejny już początek postanowiłem zbytnio się nie wysilać, ani tym bardziej rozpisywać :) Przejdźmy więc do konkretów...

Now You See Me – sama otoczka dotycząca seansu w kinie, nadała całemu doświadczeniu dodatkowego dreszczyku. Kino z którego korzystam, Cineworld Cinemas postanowiło dla posiadaczy Unlimited Card, zorganizować pokaz przedpremierowy,  nie zdradzając jednak jaki film będzie wyświetlany. Pomysł świetny i liczę na więcej takich imprez.

Film zdecydowanie posiada tzw ‘WOW Factor’. Czegóż innego jednak spodziewać się po filmie z gwiazdorską obsadą oraz o niezwykłą tematyką jaką jest magia. A mianowicie, w filmie występują: Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Mélanie Laurent oraz Michael Caine. Zaraz na początku poznajemy historię czwórki magików: Daniel Atlas (Eisenberg), Henley Reeves (Fisher), Jack Wilder (Franco) oraz Merritt McKinney (Harrelson), którzy za sprawą magnata ubezpieczeniowego Arthura Tresslera (Caine), w tajemniczy sposób (każdy z nich otrzymuje kartę Tarota z adresem pod który mają się stawić) połączeni zostają w grupę zwaną ‘The Four Horseman’ i następnie, w trakcie pokazu na żywo w Las Vegas, napadają na francuski bank. Dochodzeniem w sprawie zajmuje się agent FBI Dylan Rhodes (Ruffalo), który próbuje rozwikłać zagadkę z pomocą francuskiej agentki Interpolu Almy Dray (Laurent).

Fabuła jest dość zawiła i skomplikowana, więc nie będę się dalej w nią zagłębiał. Podzielę się natomiast swoimi odczuciami z filmu. Jak wcześniej wspomniałem, film jest zdecydowanie ekscytującym widowiskiem, z różnego rodzaju magicznymi sztuczkami, ciekawymi efektami specjalnymi, pościgami, walkami a nawet wątkiem miłosnym. Znajdzie się coś dla każdego. Jest również niezwykle zabawny. Być może to efekt wypełnionej po brzegi sali kinowej, ale już dawno nie słyszałem tak entuzjastycznie reagującej i śmiejącej się widowni.  Tu też nie ma się co dziwić, jako że film wyreżyserowany jest przez francuskiego speca od kina akcji Louisa Leterriera, twórcę takich filmów jak choćby The Transporter, Transporter 2 czy Clash Of Titans.

Wszystko niby wygląda świetnie... ale tak nie jest. Cały film wydaję się bardzo płytki. Szczególnie zakończenie. Zbyt wiele wątków, za słabo wyjaśnionych albo trochę nie trzymających się ‘kupy’. Główni bohaterowie nie doczekali się jakichś dokładniejszych opisów i tak naprawdę zupełnie nie wiadomo o co w tym wszystkim chodzi. Istnieje podejżenie, że film doczeka się kolejnej części, co by wyjaśniało takie a nie inne zakończenie, ale przyznam szczerze, że nie byłaby to istotna pozycja na mojej liście filmów do obejżenia. Film natomiast musi się podobać publice, gdyż jak narazie świetnie radzi sobie w Amerykańskim Box Office. W Europie powoli wchodzi do kin i chyba należy spodziewać się podobnych rezultatów. Czyżby już zaczął się zezon ogórkowy...?

Najbardziej w tym wszystko szkoda mi Eisenberga, który po całkiem niezłej kreacji w Zooland i genialnej w The Social Network, chyba nie bardzo potrafi odnaleźć się w świecie Hollywood...
